Breakfast Service Programme for Needy School Children

Welcome to Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust

January 2018

What an amazing year was 2017 for Annapoorna! If you recall, they had started the year with covering only about 150 schools for their Breakfast Programme. Did you realise that they have expanded this ten times to over 1500 schools during this one year alone?!!

Annapoorna Trust has had some truly exciting developments in their efforts to scale up Annapoorna operations and fill many more tiny bellies:

  • Last Saturday, they officially launched a breakfast programme in the Nizamabad District in the state of Telangana. This launch was in the presence of Smt K Kavitha, MP of Nizamabad, and daughter of Honourable Chief Minister, Sri Kalvakuntla Chandrashekhar Rao (aka, KCR). This is in addition to a prior meeting on Annapoorna with Sri K T Rama Rao (KTR), MLA from Sircilla, and the son of Sri KCR.

  • Subsequent to the launch of the breakfast programme at Visakhapatnam, they have also been receiving active encouragement from Sri Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Honourable Minister for Human Resources and Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh.

  • They have received similar support from Ms Shalini Rajneesh, Principal Secretary of Education, Government of Karnataka.

  • The breakfast programme is running smoothly at Bhongir, Telangana and Puducherry, after those launched a few months ago.

  • Breakfast service is also going on well at selected needy locations across other countries like Nigeria, Sri Lanka, the Middle East, and the USA.

  • Annapoorna Trust continues to be grateful for all the support and encouragement they have received so far. At this time, they would like to extend their warm wishes to you and your family for a happy and healthy 2018 from Team Annapoorna. May this year realise the collective dream of letting no child go to school hungry, ever!

Sincerely,

Team Annapoorna

Above Ms. Shalini Rajneesh, the Principal Secretary of Education, State of Karnataka greets Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust on the occasion of the Second Year Anniversary of the trust. She spoke about collaborating with the Government of Karnataka to introduce this programme to many other Government schools across the state.

Annapoorna Trust is happy to share with you that Dr. Shalini Rajneesh, Principal Secretary of Education, Karnataka, visited Sri Sathya Sai Grama on the occasion of the Annual Sports and Cultural Meet.

The Annual Sports and Cultural Meet brought together 5000 students from over 27 educational institutions and 14 campuses spread across nine districts in Karnataka - under the Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Group of Institutions. The students put on a grand display of skill, strength and showmanship.

The Annapoorna Breakfast Programme is conducted in close to 200 Schools in Vizag Rural. More than 20 Volunteers from Vizag participate in this selfless service every day. Above is a brief video on this service initiative covering healthcare, educare and sociocare.

The simplest way to secure a healthy future of the nation is to invest in our children now. But sadly, child malnutrition is a haunting reality. Annapoorna works towards alleviating hunger and undernourishment in rural and underprivileged school-going children by providing them with a nutritious breakfast.

Providing breakfast may be a simple concept, but it has a far-reaching impact. Since Annapoorna started, they have been a fortunate witness to the transformative power of this indispensable meal, breakfast. Higher attendance, lower dropout rates, improved health parameters, marked increase in academic performance and attentiveness and the list goes on.

But the most gratifying impact of the breakfast programme has been the transformation it has kindled in these children. Inspired by the volunteers and their dedication, the children have on multiple occasions expressed their desire to pay it forward to the society when they grow up.
