Groceries for needy families in Bengaluru during lockdown – Week 1:

Due to the ongoing lockdown to prevent COVID-19 in Bengaluru, the families dwelling in the Ragigudda slums in JP Nagar in South Bengaluru, whose children are benefited by Annapoorna breakfast programme, started to face a shortage of groceries. In order to help them out, Annapoorna volunteers got their act together to help these families. Manjunath Singh, a volunteer, helped to get the huge requirement of groceries through a known vendor within a very short time. About 60 families in the slums are each being given 10 kg rice, 2kg toor dal, salt, turmeric and much more.

The volunteers took this chance to practically demonstrate to the people in the slums about social distancing, the need for sanitizing hands and other precautions to be taken.

Essential groceries for construction workers at Thubharahalli slums – Day 1:

Annapoorna volunteers at Whitefield in Bengaluru regularly serve breakfast for needy children studying in a government school in Thubharahalli in Whitefield, Bengaluru. Some of the children’s parents are construction workers and live in the nearby slums. The volunteers enquired and found out that the construction workers were not having their daily jobs currently due to the nationwide lockdown that was announced in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The volunteers immediately drew a plan and bought provisions for 17 needy families who were living in huts in Thubharahalli slums. Rice, toor dal, salt, sambar powder, ragi, groundnut oil, sugar, poha and such, were distributed to every family in order to help them throughout the lockdown period.

This was made possible by the benevolent support extended by residents of Jyothi Enclave (Kaggadasapura) and Purva Fountain Square (Marathahalli).
