Medical Camp for the Elderly in Bali

Tabanan District

Youth from Pooja Sai Ashram continued their monthly medical camp in Tegal Mengkeb Tabanan Regency in Bali; a region located a few kilometers from the main city. This is a routine program intended to provide basic medical examination and screening for both children and adults. In March, 2018, the medical camp was conducted in Tegal Mengkeb where the majority of patients in need of medical care are elderly. Most of the elderly people have difficulty going to the nearest medical centre because the access road is difficult to travel.

Logistics and medical examination venue were prepared prior to the medical camp. The youth started their journey from the main city and traveled to Tegal Mengkeb early in the morning, but the Sunday rush hour created an unexpected one-hour delay. Several patients were already at the venue. Nevertheless, the youth started immediately. Two doctors and two nurses conducted the examinations. Overall, the team managed to keep the flow going and eventually examined all the patients.

Most of the elderly patients had long-term conditions. Initial therapy was provided and referral was given for those in need of further medical attention. Finally, the youth and patients enjoyed lunch together to end the day.
