Serving Breakfast to School Children in Malaysia

Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others “. Similarly, Swami also emphasizes on service, as it is the easiest path to self-realisation. During Swami's 93rd Birthday celebration in November 2018, Swami urged His youth to start a feeding project in their respective countries.

Following Swami's command, the youth of Malaysia embarked on a new journey of feeding breakfast to school children at a Government School in Batu Caves, Kuala Lumpur.

One might wonder, aren't children in Malaysia well fed? However, the youth found out the situation in Malaysia was the opposite. According to a research performed by UNICEF, one out of five Malaysian children suffer from stunted growth. In the United Nations Children's Fund 2018, it was stated that Malaysian children suffer from stunting more than those in Ghana.  This statement became the stepping stone for the youth. They immediately decided to begin serving 40 children.

This programme, named ‘Recipe of Love’, aims to serve and provide a balanced and healthy breakfast to children from needy backgrounds, to ensure that their daily nutrition requirements are met.

The breakfast meals are cooked and served by the youth and their mothers. The meals include idli, peanut butter sandwiches, noodles, fried rice, fruits and milk.

With the grace of Bhagawan, ‘Recipe of Love’ has expanded and is currently serving 60 children in just three months! The children are also taught to clean and wash their plates after their meal. They help carry the food containers and serve breakfast too!

The youth hope to serve more children because if they are not doing well, it cannot be said that the nation has truly progressed!
