Youth Workshop

In the Praderas del Sur housing development, the young people who are not in school, spend most of their time with friends in parks or abandoned houses and some of them fall victims to the temptation of drug use.

To work with this segment of youth; as a first step, Rene opened a night shift at his Gym from 9 PM to 10 PM.

The Council of Citizens for Safety and Justice (Consejo Ciudadano de Seguridad y Justicia A.C.) is a non-profit organisation that decided to get involved with Praderas del Sur, last September and collaborate with René’s Gym through a Social Reinsertion Program, focusing on young people who have been consuming drugs or alcohol and want to break the addiction. This non-governmental organisation conducts activities in the parks and basketball courts in the housing development during the day to keep the youth occupied and get them away from the temptation of going back to their addiction.

As a second step, René organized an electrical workshop in coordination with the Center for Technical And Industrial Training in the State of Chihuahua (Centro para la Capacitación Técnica e Industrial del Estado de Chihuahua CECATI). The advantage of collaborating with the CECATI is that at the end of their training they are given an official certification. The workshop lasts 180 hours, without cost, and the classes are held each Wednesday and Friday.

Other workshops such as metal work, plumbing and plastering are planned for the future.
