Selfless Seva Trust Of Istanbul
Helping The Beings In Need
Selfless Seva Trust of Istanbul, Turkey, established by the late Kaya Günata in the early 1990s, on Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s divine directives, carried out a wide range of Seva activities until recently; serving the socially and economically impeded neighbourhoods of a few chosen districts lying on both the European and the Asian sides of the city.
For some years now, Seva rendered to the poorest of the poor homes in the vicinity of the Trust’s premises on the European side, which has been ongoing since 1994 with Swami’s divine grace, has become one of the main service activities of the Trust, together with the animal Seva done by some members at a different venue.
Currently around twenty needy homes are being regularly visited and provided with the following services:
-
Twice a week, food is prepared and cooked at the kitchen of the Trust and full meals are delivered to all the homes involved;
-
A number of people who are suffering from serious ailments such as cancer are being fully provided with the necessary medical supplies;
-
Four times a year, solid fuel such as wood or coal – being their only means of heating – is being supplied to the homes in sufficient quantities;
-
Whenever the occasion arises, donated clothing is distributed to all the people involved;
-
And in one case involving a bed-ridden person, the house rent is regularly paid.
Also, on a more personal level, education expenses of a few youth – such as the daughter and son of a Syrian refugee family living in south-eastern Turkey – are being voluntarily met by a number of devotees.
